Tell us a little about your career at IntelliDyne.
Hello there, my name is Erick Torres and I am a Systems Engineer. It has been close to 6 years since my first day at IntelliDyne. I started my career here primarily as a Backup Ops Engineer and Storage Systems Administrator. Since then, I have worked in many different roles, such as Backup Ops SME supporting multiple sites, Armed Forces Health Surveillance’s (AFHSD) Systems Engineering Lead, and most recently joined forces as a Systems Engineer for the Problem Management team.
What motivates and inspires you to continue growing and excelling in your role?
Self-improvement. I am someone who likes to learn and enjoys the feeling of being challenged. Collaborating with multiple teams, taking on new challenges, and performing to the best of my abilities allows me to grow and create new opportunities.
How do you embody the values and culture of IntelliDyne in your day-to-day work?
The phrase, “Treat others how you would like to be treated”, is a part of my everyday life philosophy. I treat my colleagues and customers with respect, integrity, transparency, and understanding. Aiming to resolve a customer’s situation with a sense of urgency promotes trust and a positive work environment, while exceeding our customers’ expectations.
Describe yourself in three words.
Charismatic, Adventurous, Virtuous.
What kind of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
I coached Little League baseball for 8 years, that was an amazing learning experience for me. I was given the opportunity to teach and be a positive role model for our youth and community. Coaching allowed me to grow in many ways, including how to be more patient, become a better listener, communicate clearly, and perhaps most importantly, how to turn a negative situation into a positive learning experience. In addition to cheering for my son during his travel baseball games, I love to travel and discover new places, and outdoor activities such as kayaking, boating, skiing, and snowboarding. I also love photography.
What brought you to IntelliDyne and what keeps you here?
I learned about IntelliDyne from a friend of mine who used to work here. He always spoke very highly of his time with the company and the people that he worked with. A position for a Commvault Engineer opened, and after my interview, I felt like this would be a good place for me. IntelliDyne’s culture and values are what keep me here. I feel appreciated and am recognized for my time and work. I enjoy the people that I work with. We support each other, we learn from each other, we work as a team. I have built great friendships here. I also take great pride in supporting our troops and civilian counterparts through my work. I feel like I am making a difference, and we are provided with a lot of career opportunities.
What tips or advice would you give to a new hire?
Take your time, ask a lot of questions, learn from your peers, use the tools that are available to make your life easier, do your research, always pay attention to detail, and document anything you learn to use it as a reference and share it with others.
Anything on your bucket list?
I need to travel abroad, Italy and Rome would be great for starters.
If you got a year off with full pay, how would you spend it?
I would probably do some volunteer work, and travel. I have family in California, Florida, and Puerto Rico I’d like to visit more often.
How do you define success?
I define success through the quality of my experiences and happiness.
